This is the life...
(I love the post-dating feature on Blogger. It allows me to make this entry fall on the day it actually should have!) :)
Good weekend here in Donna-land. First off, The Al came into town this weekend, and I always appreciate any chance to do her in da butt... I mean, see her! There was also a bonus Sloka, which is always a good thing. Friday night was a work night, with a smidge of socializing after that.
On Saturday, the day started with some time at the Black Swamp Arts Festival. I really love events like this, because it gives a chance for independent artists to display their work, and they also have lots of artistic activities for kids. (Note my BG-themed Giant Paper Hat and Rain Stick!) The only problem I have is that everything is way too far out of my (or any college student's) price range. Some of the jewelry, photo prints and whatnot are just incredible, but I can't afford $12 for a pair of earrings (that I could probably make myself), or $30 for a 5x7 photo with a mat. But, I had a great time walking around with the Mallis, so it was not a loss. :)
Next on Saturday's agenda was the FMB's new uniform concert. Our lovely band finally got their new uniforms this week, and they look very sharp. I especially like that the design is something that looks flattering on everyone, no matter their size. The music sounded great, and the crowd was really enjoying the show. I thought that the patriotic arrangement for the halftime show featuring the Men's Chorus was incredible (but it's by Ryan Nowlin, so of course it's incredible!)
Next we headed for the game, where we got some sweet seats in the student section. Now, I'm sure most of you gentle readers have been to some sort of a college football game... well, usually the student section is where the excitement is. You know, three half-dressed guys with their chests and faces painted in bright colors, people in outrageous wigs screaming obscenities at the other team, that sort of thing? Well, that's usually how BG's student section is... that is, until the campus police officer came and made us all sit down. Well, once we all sat down, it kinda seemed to take the wind out of our collective sails. It was sort of a delayed Wave... we'd stand up at the end of the play to cheer, then sit down again. And by the end of the game, of course, everyone was standing up again. Hopefully, next time the people in the section behind us won't be a bunch of party poopers. :) The halftime show was sharp, as per usual, and was a big hit with the crowd. We headed out after that, cause it was less of a game and more of an exercise in football. (We creamed them, like, 457-3 or something like that...)
Some socializing after that, where we were forced to wish the Katie a fond farewell... she's heading off to OSU to start on her masters' degree... something about counting trees... cause she's a science nerd. :)
Sunday was a simple day... I slept in, and then I went with Sarah to see the Toledo Botanical Gardens. They were having a plant sale that we were interested in, but sadly they didn't have anything that was suited to growing indoors. We still walked around the gardens and enjoyed the plants, though everything's pretty much out of bloom right now. I bet the place would be fantastic in spring or early summer, and I recommend it to anyone in the area. Also, there was this cute little museum on the grounds, where they displayed a collection of lithophanes... it's hard to describe what they are, but they're very cool. Also got some fresh veggies, which were yum.
OK, I know, this week was just kind of a... well, let's face it, a boring recap. I'll try to come up with something interesting to complain and/or snark about. :)
