Time flies when you're having...
How the time can fly when your attention is elsewhere. Doesn't feel like it's been two months since I last posted, but timestamps don't lie. For all of you that have still been checking, waiting for news of me... thanks, but don't worry, you didn't miss much. For your sakes, and the sake of posterity, I will try to update more often, even if it's just a song of the day or a weird observation.
These two months have been a bit of a blur. I've been working hard (I think). The library is good as always, and things at Cinemark are starting to pick up. The theater is not a bad job, but I'm starting to get a little sick of it. It's kind of a post office job... the same thing over and over again, with no end in sight. I'm thinking about starting to look for a different job. With the joys of the economy, though, I'm not turning in my notice anytime soon.
School has also been busy. I'm very glad that I didn't work full time when I was an undergraduate, or I think I might have worked myself to death. Even though I'm just taking lessons, it still seems as if every moment is taken up. Part of that is because I'm practicing more, but it just seems like between work and school I never get a moment to myself. (Don't know what I'd do with moments like that, but it would be nice to find out...)
My enjoyment these days is found in the subtle things. For instance, I am so glad that I am still involved in SAI. Though I'm older than all the girls, and most of my closest friends have long since left, it's still a place that I feel welcomed, where people are excited to see me and find out how I am.
Also, we just got digital cable! Yeah, we now get approximately 4 million channels. No, I still don't watch a damn one of them. BUT... it is all worth it for one feature..... On-Demand. I get home at 11:23 and want to watch a movie? Don't need to go to the video store, don't even need to put in a DVD... just push a button, and it's starting right now. With our schedules, this is the BEST INVENTION EVER. (The only problem is there doesn't seem to be a way to hide channels, like the 10 pay-per-porn stations, with titles that should not be repeated in a family-friendly blog...)
My only other piece of news is that I found out today that there's going to be auditions at the end of February for "The President's Own" Marine Band. That's the band that's stationed in Washington, D.C., that plays for Presidental events and whatnot. Holy crap!! Notwithstanding that that would be a SWEET gig, the money's excellent, you get swanky military benefits, and best of all? No Basic Training!! Yes folks, there would be no running, cleaning guns and peeling potatoes for this girl. (There's a weight requirement, but 30 pounds in 4 months would be a piece of low-fat cake if I actually had a reason to do it...) I know that it's the freaking Marine Band, and the chances of me actually winning the audition are probably slightly worse than an icicle's chance in Hell, but chances like this only come along once in three blue moons, so what's the harm in trying?!?
Well, that's about all I've got for now. I promise, really truly, that I will post more entries. It'll be good for me to have someone to talk to. :)
Quote of the day: "Sometimes you just have to think about the possum." - Linzi at work
Song of the day: "Build Me Up Buttercup" by.... does anyone know this?
Show of the day: Mythbusters, which is one of three shows worth watching anymore...
Good things: Auditions to get excited about, making progress on flute, and pretty new earrings
Not-good things: Feeling lonely, not having any milk for my mac and cheese dinner, and messy rooms
Also, congrats to Al on new pants as well! The hamster routine is doing the trick!! :)
